During our lifetime we consume tons of food, both good and bad. All of it needs to be digested, processed, absorbed, utilised and eliminated. However, this is a very complicated process and is any organs are not carrying out their individual tasks efficiently, problems start to occur in this structured chaos. Unpleasant symptoms such as ...
- bloating
- irregular bowel movements / constipation and or diarrhea
- indigestion
- excessive flatulence etc can begin to appear.
An uncomfortable digestive system and poor health ultimately follow if these minor discomforts are not addressed.
Unfortunately, most people pay no attention to minor discomforts when the digestive system moans and groans. Yet these are subtle warning signals, informing you that issues such as diet need to be reviewed and addressed.
Everyone's digestive system is different and therefore what seems to work for one person doesn't necessarily mean it will work for you. Food intolerance, bowel flora balance, digestive enzymes output, exercise, stress, gender, use of medication and many other factors determine an individuals nutritional needs.
Young people are able to overindulge in food and drink without many visible signs of discomfort after eating a meal or the following morning after consuming far too much alcohol. Unfortunately as we age, the digestive system tends to slow down and becomes less efficient. One example is that we produce less of a digestive enzyme called Hydrochloric Acid is the stomach which affects the digestion of proteins and can cause bad breath / halitosis, bowel flora imbalance resulting in possible candida albicans overgrowth etc. Due to all organs changing over time, our digestive system requires wise choices in terms of diet and drink and may also need some support - see our Digestive System Programme.
